Structural Engineered Wood:
Is it Green?

There is dramatic change occurring with structural wood building products. Indeed, an Austin Powers home builder returning from a 30-year cryogenic deep-freeze would hardly recognize some of the materials used in wood framing today. Since its introduction in 1980, for example, oriented strand board (OSB) has captured 49% of the North American structural panel market (plywood and OSB) and accounted for virtually all of the growth in that market. Wood I-joists, which began appearing at about the same time, now account for 40% of the raised wood floor market in North America and are expected to exceed 60% of the market by 2002.
