National Center for Healthy Housing Rates Green Building Systems

The National Center for Healthy Housing (NCHH) has given top honors to the American Lung Association’s Healthy House Builder Guidelines (see EBN Vol. 11, No. 11) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Energy Star® with Indoor Air Package (see EBN Vol. 12, No. 5) for protecting the health and safety of residents. The kudos came in a recently published report comparing the degree to which major national green building and indoor air quality guidelines uphold NCHH’s own set of healthy housing recommendations, which were developed through a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The nonprofit NCHH, based in Columbia, Maryland, also considered the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED® for Homes (see EBN Vol. 14, No. 7), the National Association of Home Builders’ Green Home Building Guidelines (see EBN Vol. 14, No. 2), and Enterprise Community Partners’ Green Communities Criteria (see EBN Vol. 14, No. 3).
