Unique American Teak Offers FSC-Certified Flooring

Teak flooring from sources certified according to Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) standards has been available in North America for some time, but it isn’t always easy to find. A new supplier aims to change that by importing prefinished teak flooring from Costa Rican plantations certified by the Rainforest Alliance’s Smartwood program. Unique American Teak has been selling flooring since January 2005, when entrepreneur Kent Sjolund imported a container of the material from an acquaintance who had invested in a Costa Rican plantation. Sjolund’s business has grown slowly but steadily ever since and is now expanding to include material from other certified and noncertified sources.
