PrimeBoard Ag-Fiber Panel Plant Sold to Masonite

In the second major announcement in a month relating to the straw-particleboard industry, the oldest straw-particleboard manufacturer in North America, PrimeBoard, Inc., was sold to Masonite International Corporation in mid-November. This follows closely on the heels of Dow Canada’s November 2005 announcement that Dow BioProducts and its WoodStalk plant would be shut down (see EBN Vol. 14, No. 12). According to Jim Morrison, chief operating officer of Masonite, the purchase of PrimeBoard was completed in mid-December. The two companies had been in discussions for several months prior to the closing, according to Morrison, and the Dow BioProducts news was not related.
