The New Orleans Principles are ten guidelines developed by participants of a charrette on Gulf Coast Reconstruction that was held on November 9-11, 2005, at the U.S. Green Building Council's annual Greenbuild conference in Atlanta, Georgia. These principles represent a consensus position of the 160 participants, approximately one-fifth of whom were invited guests from New Orleans and the immediate vicinity. The rest, from throughout North America, represented a wide range of expertise in urban planning, water management, engineering, and architecture, and included some of the leading voices in sustainable design.
