Home Energy Efficient Design (HEED) software allows designers and builders to develop simple models of house designs to compare. The program begins by asking six simple questions to determine the parameters of the house design, including house type, size, and location. Using this basic information, the program creates two scenarios: the first a basic code-compliant house and the second a more energy-efficient house. The user can then modify the design and perform energy performance calculations within the program, seeing how design decisions affect energy performance. The program is set up to work only for locations in California.
