If biomimicry brings nature’s solutions to bear on design problems, AskNature.org brings user-generated content to biomimicry. The site, created by the Biomimicry Institute and sponsored in large part by Autodesk, offers an encyclopedia of nature’s solutions to common design problems such as structural support, adhesion, energy harvesting, and cleaning. When possible, a natural design solution is linked to products based on that solution (an entry on photosynthesis, for example, links to an entry on dye-based solar cells). Users can contribute to the site through online discussions or by becoming curators of information in their own areas of expertise.
