by Janet Marinelli
This is a wonderful book explaining the issues relating to invasive plant species and the role gardeners can play in enhancing native plant communities. Marinelli makes the case that the act of building is inherently disruptive to existing ecosystems, as both the construction process and the building itself inevitably interrupt the natural movement of water, air, sun, and animals. She argues that a good garden can mitigate these impacts-for example, by including a wetland as a stormwater retention area.
