Intended for students and practitioners of landscape professions and for anyone concerned with a particular site, this book is lucidly organized around ten principles (“Pave Less” and “Favor Living, Flexible Materials,” for example) that aim to bring together the design and construction phases of landscape work, and they provide information and ideas relevant to both. A chapter on tools and machines and energy used in landscape construction illuminates the costs and consequences of a range of technologies and materials, and a chapter on noise goes beyond the visual orientation typical of discussions about landscape design. Although not a major overhaul from the first edition, the second edition includes updated information throughout. The first edition of this book was reviewed in EBN Vol. 9, No. 11.
