ReTherm Drainwater Heat Exchanger

ReTherm Energy Systems manufactures drainwater heat exchangers for residential and commercial applications. Warm drainwater flows through a section of copper drain pipe, around which is coiled smaller-diameter copper piping that carries water to the water heater. This heat exchanger preheats the supply water, saving energy and extending the life of the water heater.

The Absent House: The Ecological House of Puerto Rico
The Absent House
The Absent House takes advantage of the benevolent climate of the humid tropics of Puerto Rico to play with the ambiguity of interior and exterior spaces. The Patio of the Sun and the Stars, the most important space in the house, has tall walls that force breezes into the house and block light pollution from street lamps. All of the commodities of contemporary life are present in the house; the only exception is a television, which was left out so as not to "infect" the home's serene environment. All spaces are naturally conditioned, ventilated, and illuminated.
