LEED for Existing Multifamily Unveiled for Comment

The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) is accepting public comments on what will become the first LEED rating system for existing multifamily projects with 20-plus units.

The LEED for Operations and Maintenance: Multifamily rating system (in LEED jargon, it would officially be an "adaptation" of the LEED for Existing Buildings (LEED-EBOM) rating system) will, if approved by USGBC members, join the suite of LEED v4 rating systems, which already includes several adaptations geared for a variety of facilities: schools, warehouses, and hospitality. Key facts:

• LEED for Operations and Maintenance: Multifamily v4 would apply to existing multifamily with 20+ units, or multiple buildings in the same complex, such as 20 townhomes.
• The first public comment period for LEED for Operations and Maintenance: Multifamily, is now open through May 29, 2015. USGBC plans a member ballot on the system in Fall 2015. In order to qualify for the ballot, your USGBC membership must be current as of July 11, 2015.
