Energy Star
Since 1992, the Energy Star program has certified energy-efficient products, homes, and commercial buildings. The program, administered by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, has developed important benchmarks for everything from lighting to data centers, driving innovation and helping save energy and water.
In commercial real estate, owners and managers achieve Energy Star certification by tracking and reporting their actual energy and water use through the Energy Star Portfolio Manager tool. These steps have been shown to result in positive outcomes across large building portfolios.
