We bring deep expertise in material health and transparency, certifications, and LEED v4 implications to bear in selecting products that save energy and water, reduce material toxicity, and improve the overall environmental impact of our buildings. This is the 16th annual selection of BuildingGreen’s Top 10 Products. 

In this webcast we also explain how these Top 10 products can be applied to credits in LEED BD+C, ID+C, Homes, and/or O+M projects, including Raw Material Extraction, Optimize Energy Performance, Indoor Water Use Reduction, Low-Emitting Materials. 

Presenters

As BuildingGreen’s Products & Materials Specialist, Brent excels at deep, unbiased, and nuanced technical research on the health and environmental impacts of green building products and materials. Some areas of focus include:

  • product and material constituents, including their risks

  • product certifications

  • third-party product and material testing frameworks

  • ensuring functional performance

  • LEED Materials & Resources requirements

  • life-cycle assessment

  • the performance advantages and environmental impacts of different structural materials

Brent also serves as products editor at BuildingGreen, writing or editing all the company’s product-related publications and leading a team of editors who select industry-leading products for the company’s green building product database. In this role, he also oversees BuildingGreen’s annual award program—the Top Ten Green Building Products—and presents his findings yearly in a popular Greenbuild talk.

A LEED AP BD+C, he has been researching and writing about green building for nearly a decade but has also taught college composition, copy edited science journals, worked as a carpenter, and managed a large commercial kitchen. An active runner and cross-country skier, Brent lives in Vermont with his wife and two children.
