Heat-Pump Water Heaters Ready for Prime Time

Interest in heat-pump water heaters is growing, driven in part by new Energy Star standards for water heaters that electric storage models cannot meet, and more stringent U.S. Department of Energy standards for water heaters that are on the horizon. While a number of heat-pump water heaters have come and gone in the past few decades, participation of some of the largest industry players makes the future look brighter this time. At least three heat-pump water heaters have been introduced since mid-2009, and another is expected before the end of the year.
