Projects earn a point or two for avoiding the use of refrigerants in heating and cooling systems entirely, or for selecting equipment and refrigerants that are likely to result in a low contribution to both ozone depletion and global warming combined. Small devices with less 0.5 pounds of refrigerant are allowed. Projects also have to avoid the use of ozone-depleting chemicals in their fire suppression systems.
