Projects earn points in this credit by retaining as much as possible of the structure and structural shell of a preexisting building in the process of renovating and/or expanding it. The completed project can only exceed the original building by a certain amount. In LEED for Commercial Interiors projects have to commit to remaining in the same location for at least ten years.
