Big Green Discussion Group

Big Green is a forum to discuss and promote green building principles and practices on projects larger than single family houses. If your primary interest is smaller projects, we encourage you to consider the Green Building Discussion Group.

Big Green is co-sponsored by Drew George and BuildingGreen, Inc.

SUBSCRIBING

To sign up, send an e-mail message to "biggreen-request@biggreen.org". In the body of the message type:

subscribe

In a few minutes, you should receive a confirmation message. You MUST reply to this message to complete the process. Just hit the Reply button and send the message back to us -- don't remove anything from the message. Your reply must be received within 24 hours and be sent from the same email address as the original request.

When you have been successfully subscribed, you'll receive a welcoming message that includes instructions for unsubscribing. Please store this message for future reference. After you sign up, you'll receive messages posted to the list.

You could receive between 5 and 20 e-mail messages each day. People wanting to actively participate in the discussion generally like to receive individual messages. However, others like to reduce the cluttered inbox by using the "digest" version. This way you receive the day's discussion compiled into one e-mail message. If you prefer the digest, type the command:

subscribe digest

If you've already subscribed to the regular version, you can unsubscribe from it to get the digest format only.

UNSUBSCRIBING

To unsubscribe from either the regular or digest version of Big Green, send the following in the body of an email message to "biggreen-request@biggreen.org":

unsubscribe

The command above will unsubscribe the account from which you send the message. If you are subscribed with some other address, you must contact the list administrator to be removed. Contact Ethan Goldman <> or Drew George <>

Posting Guidelines

Messages to be read by the whole group must be sent to: biggreen@biggreen.org. You must be a member of the list to send messages.

This is a free flowing discussion among the participants. The sponsors assume no responsibility for the content or accuracy of any posting.

Please feel free to read the list without posting. Many newcomers feel more comfortable "lurking" until they get a feel for the group. However, the community is best served when you contribute your thoughts to topics about which you are well-informed.

This discussion group exists to promote communication between building professionals interested in environmentally responsible design and construction. Please be sure to keep the discussion within the bounds of that topic. If a thread of discussion strays off topic, you may be asked to move the discussion to private e-mail or to a more appropriate forum.

Please identify yourself with your real name and an e-mail address.

Please respond directly to the author of a post, and NOT to the list as a whole unless your response is likely to be of interest to others.

The Big Green Discussion Group welcomes announcements about products, events, web sites and other information resources that have a direct bearing on sustainable building design and construction. These announcements should be brief and contain a URL or email address where more information may be obtained. Announcements should be identified in the subject line of the message with words such as Announcement, Event, Product, Web Site, etc. Please avoid overly promotional or advertorial postings.

If you're using the digest mode, be sure to insert the subject to which you're responding. IT WILL NOT HAPPEN AUTOMATICALLY. Using the reply function of your email software will generally copy the digest subject, not the subject of the specific message.

Quote only the relevant passage(s) from a message to which you're responding. Generally this can be accomplished with just a few lines or a paragraph at most. Omit the address header and signature lines unless they contain something truly relevant.

Please direct any comments or suggestions about these guidelines or other logistics concerning the list to the moderators (nadav@buildinggreen.com, greenbldr@aol.com), NOT to the list as a whole. We will periodically review comments and update user guidelines as needed.

Please direct any complaints about the appropriateness of a particular posting to the person individually, with a CC to the moderators. DO NOT POST THESE MESSAGES TO THE GROUP AS A WHOLE.
