LEED Rating System Selection Policy

LEED Rating System Selection Policy

April 28, 2010

I assume you've also checked out the USGBC's LEED rating system selection policy, which can be found here?
While I don't have experience with your situation, this would suggest to me that LEED-NC would be more suitable for this situation than LEED for Homes.
Any other thoughts on why this would or would not work?

filling out the space usage type table

filling out the space usage type table

April 26, 2010

So, the point of this table is to orient the reviewer of the project - to give them a good overview of the space types within the building. There are a few credits where space types matter - such as daylighting for schools - and you should be careful to separate out spaces that will pertain to those prereqs/credits. Otherwise, you should just use your best judgement in painting an accurate picture for the reviewer without over-burdening yourself by calling out too many rooms that could be grouped together.
In response to the second question about circulation space, those can be considered ancillary/non-regularly occupied or not - we allowed for flexibility here.

review LEED-NC SSc4.3 requirements

review LEED-NC SSc4.3 requirements

April 24, 2010

Hi Brad, it's not clear to me why you don't think you are meeting the requirements as is. Do the vehicles not qualify as low-emitting/fuel-efficient? The SSc4.3 credit language, for the U.S. version of LEED-NC, at least, only requires you provide these vehicles. It doesn't say you have to purchase them.
Let's take this conversation over to the forum on the LEED-NC SSc4.3 page, by the way, where there are more resources on how to meet this credit.

Any luck on the circulation

Any luck on the circulation

April 20, 2010

Any luck on the circulation space question? I'm running into this same problem right now. Perhaps these would only include exit passageways or other areas that must only be used for circulation?

Confusing indeed.

ND launch

April 20, 2010

Apologies! I meant to add that the ND launch is expected in late spring. Unfortunately, there isn't a firm date yet, but we're working hard to make it happen as soon as possible. If you're part of a pilot project, I would recommend you get in touch with your USGBC contact if you have specific questions surrounding the launch.

Going from LEED-NC to LEED-EBOM

Going from LEED-NC to LEED-EBOM

April 19, 2010

Hi Kash, welcome to LEEDuser—it's good to have you!
It's probably best to think of LEED-EBOM v2009 as a completely new rating system compared with LEED-NC v2.2. There are a number of credits that have similar requirements, and if you documented them for LEED-NC v2.2, you'll have a head start on LEED-EBOM, but in all cases you will have to complete new documentation. For better or for worse!

Calculating FTEs

Forum discussion

Calculating FTEs

April 19, 2010

I understand if a transient is coming one hour per day like the example above, but what if they are only coming once a week and working 8 hours? How is that calculated?

And does two part time employees that are in the office three days a week, just count as two people toward the FTE?

And what do summer interns count as?

Thanks so much for your help!
Amy

LEED for Healthcare in Second Public Comment Period

Blog Post

LEED for Healthcare in Second Public Comment Period

The second public comment period is open from April 19th to May 18.

It's been a long time coming (since November 2007), but USGBC today opened a second public comment period for LEED for Healthcare!

Sixty-two credits and prerequisites, and almost all have changes, though most are minor and are about aligning LEED for Healthcare with the LEED 2009 rating systems. Some of the more significant ones are:

  • SSc9.1: Connection to the Natural World—Places of Respite has been modified to allow interior spaces such as atria to contribute, rather than only outdoor areas.
  • WEc4: Water Use Reduction has become three credits: Building Equipment, Cooling Towers, and Food Waste Systems.
  • In IEQp2: Enviromental Tobacco Smoke (ETS) Control, the allowed smoking distance from areas such as entrances has been increased to 50 feet, from 25 feet.
  • A credit calling for views from inpatient units (excluding inpatient bedrooms) was removed.

Two of the more innovative credits were removed and placed into the LEED Pilot Credit Library, where project teams can test them and earn points for doing so via the Innnovation and Design credit. The credits removed were EAc7: Medical Process Equipment Efficiency, and MRc4.1: PBT Source  Reduction—Dioxins and Halogenated  Compounds. (The links I gave here will take you to those LEED Pilot Credits within LEEDuser—we've provided all the requirements and a forum for easy reference.

Some of the unique features the current draft retained include a prerequisite (as well as a credit) calling for an integrated design process, credits for reducing mercury and other heavy metals in materials, and a credit for reducing contaminants from combustion.

The second public comment period is open from April 19th to May 18. The draft rating system, a summary of revisions, a comment form, and other documents are available on USGBC’s rating systems drafts webpage. If the second public comment period leads to further substantive changes, a third comment period will ensue. The rating system will eventually be voted on by USGBC members.
