We are working on a project in the Midwest that involves taking down and replacing an 100-ish-year-old brick building. We are hoping to find a way to salvage and reuse some of this brick in new construction. I'd love to do an LCA comparison showing the benefits of salvaging the brick vs... Read more

Hello!
I'm curious what other firms like to use to run site-specific sun path and wind path analysises that is relatively intuitive to use and generates good graphics. Section 901.5.1.3 of the 2018 IgCC includes a requirement that "A critical review shall be performed by an external expert independent of those performing the LCA." Hi folks,
I’m excited to be welcoming Meredith Elbaum and Nellie Reid into this forum! Meredith and Nellie were the duo that originally conceived of the Sustainable Design Leaders network back in 2008, and led the effort (with BuildingGreen’s support) through it’s early years.
They later left their SDL roles, so they haven’t been... Read more

Hi Green Gurus,
A "fun" take-away from the sustainable MEP Leaders Summit (just ended today):
Inspired by Passive House, we are embarking on a campaign: "Low Load Buildings Are SEXY".
One idea we have is: what if the AIA design awards set limits on metrics like heating loads to meet basic eligibility?
If you have... Read more

Kristen Fritsch, in the thread about ipe wood, asked about resources comparing the carbon footprint of transporting building materials vs the transport mode. There are people who spend their lives on this topic that I won't presume to speak for, but I'll share a few observations:
