Hi SDLers: ESG Investing is mushrooming which is a very good thing. AIA National, for example, just switched over to 100% ESG investments. With it, there seems to be a growing number of "ESG-lite" options. I'm wondering if anyone among this informed group has recommendations on how to determine a quality investment approach. I'd appreciate any... Read more

After almost eleven years in this group, today is my last day at Perkins Eastman as I move on to a new step in my career at JLL (wish me luck!). All,
Some of my colleagues and I have been working to promote interest in mass timber construction for K-12 builidngs. As part of that effort we redesigned a large high school using mass timber in lieu steel, and conducted a whole building life cycel assessment to measure the reduction in embodied carbon. We also conducted a program-... Read more

Dear Green Gurus,
I both regret and am excited to tell you that I am leaving this group to pursue my next adventure. I'm stepping down as Kirksey's Director of Sustainability, moving to Tucson, and starting my own business. My business plan is to buy existing buildings, renovate them to net zero, and then sell or rent them.
I... Read more

I've been seeing Armstrong's DC flexzone ceiling system at Greenbuild for many years. I'm working on a net zero project with LED lights and solar panels. In theory, the transmission losses in going from DC power from panels to AC for the building to DC for the lights would be eliminated. But does anyone actually have experience using this... Read more

Hi all,
We are designing a mass timber building and are closing in on selecting our mass timber supplier. One supplier is offering FSC wood and the other is offering PEFC. I don't know enough about PEFC to make a clear recommendation to the client about how it compares to FSC. I understand that PEFC endorsed SFI, so that concerns me... Read more

Anyone know of tools/methodologies for estimating embodied carbon and carbon sequestration potential of individual green infrastructure projects (e.g. bioswale along bikeway)? I've seen tools for the larger scale (e.g. land use change) as well as specific to trees (e.g. i-Tree), but these don't fully meet my needs.
Thanks!
