Can anyone point me to a (dream?) resource listing effective R-values of various wall assemblies? We are trying to find a cost-effective R-40 wall assembly for a one and two story public middle school targeting net zero energy in Oregon. Referencing Seonhee's "thermal bridging" thread in late April, I used Therm's native drawing feature, but... Read more

Hi all,
The USGBC Pacific Region is launching a new award this year that recognizes projects that have aspires to promote health of occupants and surrounding communities. When you put it like that, the question sounds absurd.
But the idea—usually unspoken—that sustainability wastes precious time and resources is painfully common in the... Read more

Hi - some of you may have received an invite to the White House for a 3-hr session to continue the discussion on the Net Zero Emissions building that they released earlier this year. Hi folks,
I'm looking into lower-carbon pipe options for HVAC and plumbing. The MEP 2040 has slides from a Buro Happold study in 2020 showing PEX to be much lower in embodied carbon than copper, which is unsurprising. CPVC is also a lower-carbon option.
But PVC has its issues and neither PVC nor PEX are recyclable (especially if... Read more

I'm looking into using solar shingles as a roofing option for a historic building renovation. Has anyone used them before and have any recommendations? I understand they won't be as efficient as traditional panels, but I'd like to figure out if it would be a worthwhile compromise to discuss with the historic commission, if necessary. Thanks...
