Ancient Forest Bill to Support Economic Diversification
Legislation to protect environmentally sensitive old-growth forests in the Pacific Northwest while supporting local economies was introduced June 25th by Senators Brock Adams of Washington and Patrick Leahy of Vermont. Key provisions of the Rural Development and Ancient Forest Ecosystem Conservation Act of 1992 include:
•Protection of 8 million acres of publicly owned ancient forests on the west side of the Cascade Mountains in California, Oregon, and Washington.
