Plastic Lumber Trade Association Formed
At a July 28 meeting in Pittsburgh the first steps were taken towards the establishment of an association to represent and coordinate the recycled plastic lumber industry. The Plastic Lumber Trade Association (PLTA) was officially formed with approval of all present at the meeting, though membership arrangements, dues, and the organizational structure have yet to be worked out.
Allan Robbins and Holly Mineard of The Plastic Lumber Company have spearheaded the effort to establish a trade association and are now coordinating the young group out of their company office. Mineard noted that the Pittsburgh meeting was very constructive, with broad attendance from all segments of the industry. The PLTA plans to work closely with ASTM to establish testing and labeling standards for plastic lumber. A special ASTM working group, labeled D-20.95.03, is working specifically on dimensional profiles (lumber) from recycled plastic.
