LEED Morphing to Serve the Market Better
by Nadav Malin
Responding to feedback from users about their experiences with LEED®, the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) has initiated a high-level “LEED refinement process.” In the spring of 2005 the Council commissioned a study from USGBC founder David Gottfried about how to improve LEED. More recently, Council board members, LEED committee members, staff, and representative LEED users have been meeting to make recommendations based on that study.
Details have not been released, but the discussions have focused on issues of “speed, cost, and documentation requirements,” and the team has been looking towards a Web-enabled system as part of an effort to create a more inviting user experience, according to CEO Rick Fedrizzi. “We plan to announce major changes at Greenbuild,” says Fedrizzi, referring to the Council’s annual conference, set for November 8 through 10, 2005, in Atlanta.
