I just received my first issue of EBN (Vol. 4, No. 1), and I had to drop you a note to tell you how impressed I am with your publication.
I am embarrassed that I haven’t been a subscriber until now. Like a lot of small builders—managing job sites, running the office, chasing new business—I only have time to read about 25% of the material that crosses my desk in any given month. I confess that my primary reason for subscribing was to support the cause of sustainable building and help boost your subscription base, but the first issue has opened my eyes. It was fantastic!
The concise, informative, easy-reading article on insulation materials was excellent. The unbiased approach to examining the pros and cons of various insulations, their applications, the comparison tables, and especially the contact information was very useful and informative.
Your recommendations are sound advice (not the least bit preachy) and pointed out some of the trade-offs involved in the selection of building components, systems, and materials that builders face every day. (A table on relative costs might have been helpful here.) This attitude of recommending better choices—rather than dictating what is right or wrong—is the approach to use on builders that are unfamiliar with sustainable building practices. This approach makes your publication an important information resource for any builder, and a very valuable reference tool for the energy efficient builder.
I am very impressed with EBN gentlemen (but not really surprised). If this issue is a benchmark, EBN is an outstanding publication which provides a real social service to the building community. Keep up the good work!
