Energy Source™ Directory
Life has been a whole lot easier around the office since theEnergy Source Directory arrived. Assembled and published by Iris Communications, this is the most complete and most useful guide to specialized products and materials used in energy-efficient construction that we've seen. The 500-page directory is divided into 15 categories, including Air Leakage Control, Heating, Indoor Ventilation, Insulation, Lighting, Moisture Control, and Water Conservation. Each listing has its own page and provides the name of the product, contact information, a product description that ranges in length from a few sentences to several paragraphs, specifications, and a list of applicable certifications/codes. At the end of the directory, products are indexed by manufacturer and trade name. Very useful listings of code and trade organizations are also provided.
As would be expected in the first edition of such a directory, there are some missing products. Tenoarm vapor barrier, Kohler's Wellworth Lite low-flush toilet, LumaTech modular electronic compact fluorescent lights, and the new Insul-Cot batt insulation are just a few examples we noticed. For the most part, though, the book is remarkably inclusive—and it will doubtless grow even more complete through the periodic updates planned. For builders and specifiers who can afford the relatively steep price, this is a must for the office.
