Architecture + Energy Award Winners

The

Architecture + Energy: Building Excellence in Sustainable Design 2001 Awards were announced in July. This year the program was open to projects from outside the Pacific Northwest for the first time, and jurors noted that the entries were the best they had seen in a competition. The four winners were:

•The Bank of Astoria in Manzanita, Oregon—designed by

Tom Bender,

Architect in association with

SERA

Architects, PC—represents a community’s rebellion against impersonal megabanks controlled from afar. Juror Gail Lindsey, FAIA, noted that it “goes beyond daylighting and electricity systems to address community impact related to sustainability.” (Wayne Curtis Construction
