Light Shelves Increase Daylight Penetration

Increasing the fraction of useful light in buildings coming from natural daylight has many advantages.

Perhaps most significant is the increased sense of health and well-being that building occupants reportedly experience with natural light. Of course, daylighting can also reduce the electricity used for lighting. If done carefully, it can also reduce the cooling load generated by artificial light. Conversely, poorly designed daylighting can increase cooling loads by allowing excessive solar gain.
