Chain of Custody (COC) - Direct Delivery to Site

October 21, 2015

We are procuring noggings that are FSC certified. The vendor doesn't have chain of custody certification. However, can we comply with this credit if we get the noggings delivered straight to site?
We are using the LEED v3 CI.
Thanks

100% OA VAV Base Building system

100% OA VAV Base Building system

September 7, 2015

Hi, the CI project I am working on uses only the base building system supply for meeting rooms with between 2 and 8 people. These rooms are all located internally and only use a temperature sensor to modulate the 100% OA VAV base building system. As the system is 100% OA there is ample ventilation being provided to the space. Also the VAV damper is connected to a temperature sensor that will modulate with the occupant density.

I would like to confirm that our system meets the intent of the credit and that CO2 sensors are obsolete in this senario.

Any meeting rooms with more than 8 people are provided with a supplementary system with temeprature and CO2 sensors.

Showing Prescriptive Compliance for CRAC units

Showing Prescriptive Compliance for CRAC units

September 7, 2015

The CI project I am working on uses a CRAC unit and I was uncertain, which category CRAC units come under.

If it is classified as Packaged Unitary Equipment then it needs to show compliance with Energy Star. If so which category does CRAC units come under?

If CRAC units are not covered under Energy Star, what performance criteria does it need to comply with to show compliance?

100% Outside Air systems

100% Outside Air systems

The base building HVAC system uses 100% outside air. Therefore there are no return grilles. I am assuming that the requirement for filtration then is not applicable?

enhanced refrigeration management credit

enhanced refrigeration management credit

April 22, 2015

can someone explain how/why a credit is achieved under the LEEDv4 , enhanced refrigerant management. my understanding is that the intent is to
"To reduce ozone depletion and support early compliance with the Montreal Protocol while minimizing direct contributions to climate change" . but option 2 allow for the credit to be achieved simply calculating the effect instead of minimizing it by leak detection and automatic recovery as is done by the GBCA here in Aus.
Is this correct?

Cooling tower cycles

Cooling tower cycles

March 11, 2015

Hi all,

Our project is using Munters cooling tower in which the cooling tower cycles measured continuously and the dump cycle adjusted accordingly. Therefore, the requirement for measuring the water quality is not necessary (its continuously measured).

Does anyone have experience with this system and know if this is acceptable to GBCI or not?

Thanks.

62.1 Theater Stage and Seating - Open spaces - 62.1 vent require

62.1 Theater Stage and Seating - Open spaces - 62.1 vent require

November 5, 2014

Hi,
I have a theater space which has one single zone AHU serving the stage area and one single zone AHU serving the seating. I had modeled these as separate single zone AHU's using the 62.1 calculator however the stage is only provided with 7.5l/s/person which equates to 75l/s. Due to the size of the stage the 62.1 people and area (0.3l/s/m2) rate means 250l/s is required. There is more than enough outside air provided to the seating but does the outside air provided by the stage AHU need to be increased to comply (e.g. there is no workaround with the spaces being open to each other)? There are not fans specifically pulling air from the seating to the stage just the general mixing of the spaces being open to each other.
Thanks
Victoria

Local Code more stringent - Pre req and IEQc2 documentation

Local Code more stringent - Pre req and IEQc2 documentation

October 28, 2014

Hi,

I am working on a large project in Australia that has used local code. The local code is more stringent than 62.1 however needs to be documented for the submission. I was intending on working out some spaces which i deem to be worst case to show the outside air at the unit complies. However the LEED form asks for the required outdoor air intake and needs a baseline to show 30% better from. So I am wondering:

1) Has anyone documented the pre-requisite without doing the full 62.1 calculations to show equivalence
2) Has anyone documented the +30% credit without doing the full 62.1 calculations to show equivalence

Thanks

Drop off spaces only

Drop off spaces only

October 2, 2014

Hi all

Our project has drop off zones only and no new parking on-site. The drop off zones are physically identical to car parking spaces it's just you're not allowed to park in them for more than a minute or two. If they are under the main building structure I'm assuming this achieves the same environmental outcomes and would comply with Option 2 (min 50% parking undercover)?

Would appreciate your thoughts/experience.

Thanks.

Non-FSC Invoices

Forum discussion

Non-FSC Invoices

September 24, 2014

The FAQ on LEED User for this credit says that the non-FSC invoices need to be compiled but not submitted and references the April 2008 Memo. I reviewed the memo and it definitely says ALL timber invoices need to be compiled. But it does not say anything about submitting or not submitting?

Additionally, the v4.0 version of the MRc7 LEED Online form asks for "Percentage of MRc7 materials with vendor invoices provided (by cost). Must be 100% to document credit compliance." And in the upload section it asks to "Provide vendor invoices for all new wood products on a line item basis."

This seems to contradict the LEED User FAQ - i.e. it looks to me that we do need to submit the invoices for the non-FSC rated timber. Could you please clarify.

Regards,

Phil
