This is one more in a string of indicators that green building, like the larger green movement, is reaching the steep part of its growth curve. Alex Steffen recently argued on WorldChanging.com that Gore's Nobel prize signaled a transition for the green movement: from trying to convince the public that there is a problem to offering solutions to that problem. He claims that the public now largely buys into the need for change, and it's up to us to offer a credible alternative to "business as usual" in order to meet that need.

It's a credible argument, although there is obviously no single turning point and we will still need to spread the word about global warming for some time to come. Still, it's hard to argue that green is a fringe movement after this last year of media attention!
