Multiple Benefits of Daylighting in Schools

In spite of tight construction budgets, the Raleigh, North Carolina-based architecture firm Innovative Design, Inc. has convinced several regional school districts to incorporate roof monitors for daylighting in classrooms, gymnasiums, and cafeterias. These measures are resulting in substantially reduced electricity costs for lighting and cooling. Even more significant, however, is the evidence Innovative Design has collected suggesting that daylighting in schools significantly improves student performance.
