Austin Green Building Program Changes Hands

In an ongoing reshuffling of city services and personnel, the Austin Green Building Program (formerly “Green Builder Program”) is now a service of the city’s municipal utility, rather than a part of city government’s Environmental and Conservation Services Department. In the short term not much has changed, and the Program continues to handle inquiries and run events for local residents. Over time the Program’s role may change, however, as the pressure builds to generate income for the utility.

In addition to the services they provide to residents, Green Building Program staff are now actively pursuing consulting contracts outside the city. Their expertise with the Green Building Program may prove valuable to local and state government agencies and utility companies. Program staff are also working with architecture firms on green design programs and on specific projects.
