DuPont Textiles Becomes INVISTA

On September 4, 2003, DuPont Textiles & Interiors, a wholly owned subsidiary of DuPont, announced that it will be called INVISTA™, effective immediately. The name change is designed to give INVISTA an identity independent of its parent company, DuPont, as a step towards a more complete separation. DuPont is in exclusive negotiations with subsidiaries of Koch Industries, Inc., of Wichita, Kansas, regarding the possible sale of INVISTA. If that deal fails, INVISTA may go public as an independent company.

INVISTA claims to be the world’s largest integrated fibers and intermediates business, with 2002 revenues of $6.3 billion and operations in 83 counties. Within the sustainable design world, INVISTA’s best-known brand is its Antron® nylon carpet fiber products. The company also owns well-known brands such as Lycra®, Teflon®, and Stainmaster®. “We’ll continue to strengthen the environmentally preferable product program,” Alan Wolk, president of INVISTA’s Interiors and Industrial Division, told EBN. “We’re not going to give up our leadership in this area as we separate.” INVISTA recently retired 2,258 pounds (1,025 kg) of global warming credits to offset emissions caused by energy use at the Symposium on Healthcare Design, held in Boston during September 2003. The credits represent a reduction from the company’s Sabine River Plant in Orange, Texas, equivalent to 700,000 pounds (317,500 kg) of carbon dioxide. Further information is available on the Web at
