ENSAR Group Joins Rocky Mountain Institute
by Nadav Malin
Boulder, Colorado-based ENSAR Group, led by Greg Franta, has been a leader in the design of energy-efficient, daylit buildings since the late 1970s, and more recently has been at the forefront of the green building movement, training professionals and designing and consulting on dozens of LEED® buildings. ENSAR has also been one of the firms contracted to review LEED submissions for the U.S. Green Building Council. ENSAR has worked with RMI closely over the years and more recently took over the implementation of many green projects initiated by RMI consultants. “Greg Franta has been an outstanding partner and friend for more than twenty years,” said Lovins. “Combining forces is a longstanding dream come true for all of us.”
As of August 1, 2005, ENSAR closed its doors as a company, and its staff of four all became RMI employees. RMI’s Green Development Services arm is now led by Franta, under the name RMI-ENSAR Built Environment. Now working under the RMI umbrella, Franta is excited about offering clients, including developers, government agencies, and corporations, an integrated scope of consulting services. “Now we can go from the think-tank, concept level that RMI has traditionally done all the way through to implementation,” he says. RMI-ENSAR staff have moved from ENSAR’s offices to a new Boulder location at 1215 Spruce Street, and are expanding—Franta expects that they will soon have 17 people on board.
