Gore Announces "Livability Agenda"
On January 11 at the American Institute of Architects headquarters in Washington, Vice President Al Gore announced the Administration’s wide-ranging Livability Agenda. This is a high-priority, multifaceted effort to reduce sprawl, to minimize the time we spend in traffic, and generally to make our communities more livable. Gore described a whole litany of problems that need fixing:
“In many older communities, walkable main streets have emptied out, leaving a nighttime vacuum filled with crime and disorder….”
