New Green Buildings Trade Association
A group of product manufacturers and other building professionals has just founded the U.S. Green Building Council, with the goal of promoting environmentally sound and energy-efficient buildings worldwide. The Council was officially established at a May 27 meeting in Washington and already has over thirty corporate members. Plans for the Council are far- reaching, including research into the economic and environmental benefits of green building, demonstration programs, educational efforts, promotion of appropriate standards and codes, cooperation with government initiatives, and participation in international green building forums. A joint symposium with the National Institute of Standards and Technology is tentatively planned for February, 1994.
The U.S. Green Building Council has its headquarters in San Francisco, with an office in Washington, D.C. that will focus on governmental affairs and legal matters, according to Program Director David Gottfried.
