New Vision for the World Trade Center

New York New Visions: Principles for the Rebuilding of Lower Manhattan. Far from intending it as a conclusion, the 350+ participants in this effort describe the document as a starting point for the much broader public dialog that they envision.

A strong theme throughout the document is the opportunity now available to enhance transportation and pedestrian corridors through lower Manhattan, and to increase the diversity of uses and occupancy types in the area. The authors recommend bringing the hub of rail connections above ground with the creation of a lower-Manhattan version of Grand Central Station, increasing small-scale retail opportunities along the pedestrian corridors, and providing a range of residential options. The document includes many well-designed maps and charts illustrating current and proposed patterns of space utilization and travel routes.
