News Brief
Architecture for Humanity
Architecture for Humanity (AFH) announced the winning entries in its competition to design a mobile clinic equipped to treat rural African patients infected with HIV or AIDS and to disseminate information about the disease and its prevention. AFH received a staggering 530 entries representing 1,300 designers and 150 medical professionals from over 50 countries. The winning design, a modern frame system made of local materials, came from the Danish firm KHRAS. If funded, AFH will build one or more working prototypes from the best designs submitted. This was AFH’s second competition since its establishment in 1999; in the first competition, designers were challenged to develop transitional housing for refugees returning to Kosovo.
