ASES' Abbott Award Goes to Nicklas
Advisory Board member Michael Nicklas received the American Solar Energy Society’s (ASES) highest award on April 22, for his contribution to ASES and to the field of solar energy. The 1996 Abbott Award is the first to go to a practitioner in the use of solar energy, rather than to a researcher. In his acceptance speech, Nicklas noted that receiving the award as a practicing architect is a sign that the use of solar energy in buildings is maturing. Nicklas is a past chair of ASES, and past president of the International Solar Energy Society. Nicklas’ firm, Innovative Design, Inc., has completed 600 projects incorporating renewable energy, passive solar design, and daylighting, including daylit schools (see Multiple Benefits of Daylighting in Schools).
