ASLA Announces 2004 Award Recipients

The American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) board of directors has announced the recipients of the

2004 Medal and Firm Awards, to be presented during ASLA’s annual meeting in Salt Lake City this November. Some of the winners are listed below; more information is online at www.asla.org.

•Peter W. Walker, FASLA, received the

ASLA Medal, ASLA’s highest honor. Walker was a founding member of Sasaki, Walker and Associates, later known as the SWA Group. Recently, Walker and architect Michael Arad won the commission for the World Trade Center Memorial.

•James S. Bedwell, ASLA, won the

LaGasse Medal for Landscape Architecture. Bedwell, currently forest supervisor for the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests and Pawnee National Grassland, served as the Forest Service’s chief landscape architect from 1996 to 2000.

•The

Urban Land Institute (ULI) was awarded the

Landscape Architecture Medal of Excellence for its work in landscape architecture policy, research, education, project planning, and design. Founded in 1936, ULI today represents more than 20,000 professionals.

•Wallace Roberts & Todd, LLC, (WRT), received the

Landscape Architecture Firm Award. Founded by Ian McHarg, FASLA, and William H. Roberts, FASLA, among others, in 1963, WRT was recognized for its “international prominence in the advocacy and practice of environmentally responsible design.”
