Construction Materials Recycling Guidebook

Construction Materials Recycling Guidebook

Pamela Winthrop Lauer, project director. 1993. Free. 36 pages. Order from: Metropolitan Council, Attn: Data Center, Mears Park Center, 230 E. Fifth St., St. Paul, MN 55101; 612/291-8140.

Although designed for use by contractors in the Twin Cities area of Minnesota, this guidebook has lots of information that contractors everywhere should find useful.

Particularly valuable are practical suggestions for job-site recycling, a detailed worksheet for figuring out the economics of recycling, and a bid specification guide for recycling. The spec guide details a client’s interest in recycling so that contractors bidding on the job can spell out their costs for that aspect of the project. It is designed to fit into the Construction Industry Cooperative Committee’s blue book of specification standards, and should be adaptable for use anywhere.

Of regional interest is an overview of C&D waste in the Twin Cities area, and a directory of recyclers and waste haulers with recycling capability in the region (similar to directories published by Metro in Portland, Oregon, and the Integrated Solid Waste Management Office of Los Angeles—see EBN

Vol. 1, No. 3, p. 7).
