The First International Conference on Ecological Building Structure, held July 5-9, 2001 in San Rafael, California, brought together an outstanding array of experts in alternative building materials and technologies from around the world. In an informal setting, participants presented the results of their research, experimentation, and real-world experience with various systems, including earth-building techniques, straw-bale construction, bamboo, and pozzolanic substitutes for cement. This CD-ROM, containing papers presented at the conference and many others, captures the technical information—if not the ambiance and interaction.
