Emerging Green Builders Design Competition Winners

The Emerging Green Builders chapter of the Council hosted the first annual USGBC Design Competition this year. The challenge was to design an 18,000 ft2 (1,675 m2), $2 million addition to the nonprofit Pittsburgh Project. The designs, including classroom space and housing, were required to qualify for a LEED Platinum rating. Over 125 teams of students and emerging green professionals registered for the competition, and 12 finalists were invited to present their designs at Greenbuild.

•First prize of a $2,000 green building scholarship went to Renee Stepp, Shawn Kaffer, and Chris Ilg of the DWL Green Team.

•Second prize of free tuition to the Biomimicry and Architecture course in the Virgin Islands this February went to Kelsi Jean Montgomery of the Randel Jacob Design Group and Christina Joy Neumann of Vint & Associates Architects.

•Third prize of free registration to Greenbuild 2004 went to April Hughes of Cannon Design and Mark Schwamel of the Mc4 West: Take II Design Team, a division of A. Epstein & Sons.
