From Seattle, one of our most “wired” cities, comes an innovative, Web-based resource profiling green buildings in King County and the recycled-content products these buildings are made of. The enCompass Web site contains two integrated components: a virtual tour of 33 building projects using recycled-content materials; and useful information about these materials in graphically attractive profiles. Hot links interconnect these two parts and also connect to a myriad of other Web sites including those of project architects and contractors, product manufacturers, and trade associations. It is both a promotion and networking tool for King County’s construction economy. The enCompass site was developed by Ann Thorpe, who published the now defunct periodical

On the Ground.
