Governors Island regeneration
First prize in the Van Alen Institute’s competition for a design for reuse of New York Harbor’s Governors Island was awarded to University of Pennsylvania graduate student Peter Hau for his plan to transform the Island into a regenerative garden. Entitled: “Open Narratives: Reconfiguring the Air, Land and Waters,” Hau’s proposal includes plants acting to clean the river, filter heavy metals, and purify the air; and relies on windmills and PV arrays to power the Island’s facilities.
