The American Institute of Architects College of Fellows awarded its 2007 Latrobe Prize to a research group studying New York City’s harbor. The $100,000 grant will support research of future development in the area, looking at urban ecology, parks, transportation infrastructure, as well as possible rising sea levels from global warming. The study, led by Guy Nordenson, professor of structural engineering at Princeton University School of Architecture, envisions the New York and New Jersey Upper Bay as a “water-bound Central Park.” The Latrobe Prize is awarded biennially for research leading to advances in architecture.
