President's Council on Sustainable Development Selects 15 Award Recipients
The President’s Council on Sustainable Development and President Clinton have selected 15 recipients of Presidential Honors Awards, exemplifying successful integration of economic viability, environmental integrity, and social well-being. Award winners in the building, design, and building products fields include:
•Architect William McDonough, dean of the Virginia School of Architecture and a leading visionary in the sustainable design field;•The Collins Pine Company and Home Depot for their joint efforts to market wood products from forests that are third-party certified as well managed;
• The Loading Dock, a nonprofit recycler of reusable building materials that has assisted in the remodeling of 20,000 homes over 111⁄2 years;
•The Menominee Indian Tribe of Wisconsin for responsible forest stewardship and exemplary economic, environmental and social integration;
•Monsanto, for fulfilling a range of environmental initiatives in the Monsanto Pledge;
•Bronx 2000™, for community-based development including affordable housing and neighborhood economic development;
•3M’s Pollution Prevention Program;
•Wellman, Inc. for its Fortrel EcoSpun™ 100% recycled PET fiber used in carpets and other products.
