This year’s American Solar Energy

Society (ASES) Passive Pioneer

Award is being presented to Susan

Yanda and her late husband, Bill

Yanda, whose efforts to promote

passive solar design spanned three

decades. During the 1970s the Yandas

began their community-based workshops,

traveling the country to teach

people how to build attached solar

greenhouses. They founded Brother

Sun, a store that became an outlet

for solar information and products,

and created the SureSeal Glazing

System, which is used around the

world for large and small solar glazing

applications.
