Congratulations, Hanley Award Winner Alex Wilson

As editors working under Alex Wilson’s leadership here at

Environmental Building News, we deeply appreciate and enjoy the qualities Alex brings to his work: his seemingly bottomless energy and constant curiosity toward pursuing innovative, bold environmental solutions; his vision in founding BuildingGreen as a mission-based company; his courage in choosing to eschew advertising in

EBN, demonstrating to our readers our focus on an unbiased, independent approach; and the way he’s taken tough stands in these pages on a wide range of human health and environmental issues over the 19 years of

EBN’s publication.

Alex Wilson

We’re proud of Alex and glad to know that others see these same things—most recently the Hanley Foundation,

EcoHome magazine, and publisher Hanley Wood, which just named Alex the 2010 winner of the Hanley Award for Vision and Leadership in Sustainable Housing. (He joins another one of our role models, 2009 winner Ed Mazaria, FAIA.) We’ll be cheering for Alex when he receives the award and an accompanying $50,000 grant at the USGBC Hanley Award Dinner ceremony on November 17th at the Greenbuild conference in Chicago.

As Bob Berkebile, FAIA, of BNIM Architects and

EBN Advisory Board member, said, “Alex is the undisputed go-to person for deep knowledge about deep green. His ability to put context to the science helps the rest of us make better decisions.” Congratulations, Alex.

I can think of no one more deserving of this award than Alex. I have know him most of the 19 years that EBN has been the authority on green building and sustainable design.
At the first "green' conference I attended at the Green Village conference in Charleston S.C., Alex was there and he has been presenting at every significant green event ever since. EBN is the authority on green building, products and processes. Alex is one of the top two or three persons in this country who is most responsible for the growth and success of green building.
