® for Existing Buildings (LEED-EB) pilot program (see p. 3). As in recent years, the conference lasted two and a half days, preceded by a “USGBC Day” for members only. A series of full-day and half-day workshops also took place before and after the conference proper.
This year’s conference brought a major change in the selection process for speakers, however. Last winter the program committee decided to invite all speakers directly instead of soliciting abstracts. That decision was widely criticized at the time, especially by the many aspiring speakers who were hoping to get abstracts accepted. The invitation-only approach does seem to have improved the quality of most of the sessions, however, and overall participant satisfaction with the conference was high, based on informal questioning and observations by
